Minutes Board of Selectmen Meeting  - Town of Sweden

April 1, 2008

Meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. by Selectman Willey with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present were Selectmen Willey, Jones and Noble, Road Commissioner Clifford and Clerk Gibbons. Spelling error on minutes of March 25th from Riff-raff to rip-rap was noted. Minutes were approved for the March 11 meeting (2-0) one abstention, March 15 Town Meeting (3-0) and March 25 meeting with correction (3-0).

List of appointments was increased to add one alternate for School Administrative District 72 as Wendy Coffey-Slattery is not able to accept the appointment. DJ Curtis is submitting a notice to the Bridgton News to include one Planning Board Member and one Planning Board Alternate, two Appeals Board Alternates, and 1 School Board Alternate.

A roads report is being worked on.

Mr. Willey and Mr. Noble will check with the two companies that bid on the Town Meeting House roof to see if bids need to be raised due to increase in cost of materials.

There is nothing new to report about the Knights Hill Road Compliance issue.

Most of the dog owners have now registered their dogs. Mr. Willey will contact one of the dog owners.

Mr. Jones had contacted the Town Manager of Bridgton to inquire about their interest in covering the Town of Sweden for Fire Services. The Manager asked if this was a request of the Board of Selectmen. Mr. Jones sought authorization from the Board of Selectmen. Mr. Noble suggested that a meeting be held with the Selectmen from Sweden and Bridgton with the Fire Chiefs present. Moved by Mr. Jones to authorize the simple inquiry at this time. (2-1) It was understood that if Bridgton is interested a meeting of parties be arranged. Mr. Jones suggested that inquiry be also made to Waterford and Lovell on behalf of the Fire Station Building Committee.

A letter from Community Concepts was received concerning housing development. Mr. Jones will write a letter to support their efforts to provide housing for low income people in our area.

Clerk Gibbons announced that she will be out of state April 13 - 21st on a leave of absence without pay for that period. Notices have been posted concerning office closure Tuesday, April 15 10-12 a.m. and Thursday, April 17 6 - 8 p.m.
