Minutes Board of Selectmen
Meeting
Town of Sweden
March 4, 2008
Meeting was opened by
Selectman Harris at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Present were
Selectmen Harris, Willey and Jones, Admin. Assistant DJ Curtis, Clerk J.
Gibbons, Warren Noble of the Budget Committee, Wolfgang Duve of the Fire Station
Building committee, and guest Heather Hoover.
Minutes of the Feb. 26th meeting were approved.
The plan for the informational meeting is to have the Clerk open the meeting and
start the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. The town office is to be closed
during the meeting.
DJ Curtis reported that we were $19,000 short in 2007 and that that comes out of
the $28,000 overlay. We would be putting in approximately $6,700 instead of the
budgeted $26,000 in surplus. The Selectmen had recommended $112,000 for Winter
roads. The Budget Committee recommendation was higher. We spent $5,000 at the
end of the year for sand and $5,000 for salt.
DJ reported that if raising the LD1 limit fails the tax rate will be a 2%
increase or .00953 tax rate, an increase of $20 per $100,000 valuation. If
raising LD1 passes as recommended by the Selectmen the increase will be 3% and
tax rate of .00970 or $35.00 per $100,000 valuation. If the Budget Committee’s
figures are approved the increase will be 16% or a tax rate of .0108 or $145 per
$100,000 valuation.
Concerning the proposed Zoning and Land Use Ordinance Sixth Revision January 31,
2008, the Selectmen made no recommendation for approval. It is the opinion of
the Selectmen that no abatements will be granted for wetlands. (3-0)
Mr. Duve reported that a proposal might be made to Scott Valley to drill a new
well for him so that the town could acquire the 60-foot frontage between the
acquired plot for the fire station and Route 93.Currently the town office is
using a well owned by the church and that was deemed enough for the fire station
use. It pumps out 12 gallons per minute according to Warren Noble.
Mr. Harris reported that the CEO has his new recertification.
Dog licenses “There are 4 residents that have not registered their dogs.
Assuming that one would not be compliant, the Selectmen each volunteered to
phone the owner to avert their having to send out warrants.
Meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
